.Barnes and Noble is a very popular book seller all over the country. Moreover it is a very popular social hangout spot for adolescents and adults alike. Barnes and Noble really has something to offer for every age group but certain locations like that of the store in Montclair Mall specifically speaks to the regions youth. The diverse sections of entertainment and even the starbucks held inside attract young people the most. It's a place where any day of the week, you can go with some friends, buy a good book and get some coffee or a sweet spin on it.
As we discussed in class that any consumer hot spot will have a lack of clocks and very few exits. Barnes and Noble is no exception. Aside from the fact that the only real entrances lie between the mall and the uninhabited parking lot, the environment also provides a simple quiet comfort towards anyone who enjoys reading, music, or even certain toys and puzzles that the store offers.
The way that the shelves are set up is such that they are just tall enough that you can not see anything else around you except the books. This contrasts with F.Y.E. in the same montclair mall where the shelves are only about waist high, and you can quite easily find the exit. The purpose as to this is such that an individual may find difficulty in finding the exits and as a result are more compelled to keep wandering which in turn promotes the consumer to buy something from the store if they find something they so please. The tall shleves which limit sight beyond what's immideatly in front of you pursuades the customer to actually buy something. It is an extremely effective tactic as I've personally seen people get lost in the store because in a way Barnes and Noble is almost built like a maze to keep customers trapped in.
